Welcome to May!

As we celebrate 100 days of the Biden-Harris Administration and the return of hope, compassion, truth, and science to the White House, we are in a battle for our rights at the ballot box.

It is infuriating that the GOP, in battleground states across this country, are creating barriers to voting after we fought so hard to remove those barriers. Voting rights are human rights. The disgraceful, anti-democratic laws being passed by Republicans are designed to disenfranchise voters across America and are a shameful affront to our nation and our values.

The GOP are angry and scared that Black and Brown people voted in record numbers last November, and these voter suppression bills here in Michigan and countless other states – are, plain and simple, a resurrection of Jim Crow laws.

Their actions are clear and their intent fools no one. The GOP doesn’t celebrate a record number of people voting. That scares them. It also means they lose. That is their game-plan: first they lose, then they lie, and then they attempt to abuse their power to take away our rights.

The 39-bill package introduced by Michigan Senate Republicans, without a single Democratic co-sponsor, is not a good-faith effort to improve our elections. It’s just their latest incarnation of the Big Lie that the 2020 elections were rigged..

Together, we will not allow the Republicans to get away with this in Michigan. Join a phone bank, call your State Senator, write a letter to the editor, tell all of your friends and family – we must stop this attack on our democracy. Please continue to be safe and get a vaccine if you are able. I am looking forward to getting back out on the road and connecting with all of you in person once again.

In Solidarity-
